Pandora jewellery is loved for its charms, its sparkle and the way a single bracelet can tell your whole story. That popularity also means there are plenty of imitations around, especially when you're buying preloved. The good news is that genuine Pandora has a look and feel that's hard to copy. Here are the signs we look for, so you can shop with confidence.
1. Weight and a solid feel
Most Pandora charms and bracelets are made from sterling silver, and genuine pieces feel reassuringly solid in the hand. Charms have a pleasing heft for their size, and bracelets drape smoothly rather than feeling thin or springy. Imitations are often made from lighter base metals, so they can feel flimsy, hollow or almost weightless. If you have a piece you know is genuine, hold the two side by side. The difference is often obvious straight away.
2. A clean finish and neat seams
Look closely at the surface and the edges. Real Pandora has a smooth, even finish with crisp, well-defined detail. Where parts join, the seams are neat and barely noticeable. Rough edges, obvious joins, pitting, flaking or blurry detail are all good reasons to look more closely before you buy.
3. Smooth, even threading inside charms
Take a look inside the charm. The core should be clean and well finished, with no rough burrs or sharp edges that could catch on the bracelet. Where a charm or clip has threading inside, it should be smooth, even and neatly cut, turning onto the bracelet's threaded sections easily without sticking or wobbling. Shallow, uneven or crooked threading is a common giveaway on copies.
4. A quality clasp that closes properly
The clasp is one of the best tells. On a genuine Pandora bracelet, the clasp feels sturdy, sits neatly and closes with a satisfying, secure click. Once shut, it should stay firmly closed and line up neatly with the rest of the bracelet. A loose, wobbly or flimsy clasp, one that pops open too easily, or one that doesn't sit flush is a warning sign.
5. Murano glass that's even and bubble-free
Pandora's Murano glass charms are some of the loveliest pieces in the range. On genuine examples, the glass is smooth and even, the colours are clear and well defined, and there are no air bubbles trapped inside. Look through the centre and you'll see a silver core lining the hole, so the glass never sits directly on the bracelet. Imitations often have cloudy glass, visible bubbles, patchy colour or a bare glass hole with no silver lining.
6. Crisp, neat enamel
Enamel on real Pandora is applied with care. The colours are bright and even, they stay neatly within their lines, and the surface is smooth to the touch. Smudged edges, uneven patches, tiny bubbles or colours that bleed into each other all suggest a copy.
7. Buy from a trusted seller
When you're buying preloved, who you buy from matters just as much as what you buy. Look for a seller who checks every item, shows clear photos, answers questions happily and offers a returns promise. A seller who's confident in their stock will be glad to stand behind it, and will make it easy for you to send something back if you're not happy.
8. Be wary of prices that look too good to be true
Preloved Pandora is usually more affordable than buying new, but genuine pieces still hold their value. If a listing is priced far below what similar pieces normally go for, or a seller has a huge stock of "brand new" items at bargain prices, take a step back. A deal that seems too good to be true usually is.
Putting it all together
No single sign tells the whole story, so it's best to look at several together. A genuine piece will usually tick every box:
- a solid, satisfying weight
- a clean finish with neat seams
- smooth threading and a well-finished core
- a secure, good-quality clasp
- even, bubble-free Murano glass with a silver core
- crisp, tidy enamel
- a trusted seller and a sensible price
If something feels off, trust your instincts and ask questions before you buy. A good seller will always be happy to tell you more.
