Silver jewellery is made to be worn and enjoyed, and with a little care your Pandora pieces will keep their shine for years. Here's how to keep your charms, bracelets and bangles looking their best.
Why silver darkens
Over time, sterling silver naturally darkens when it reacts with the air, moisture and everyday products such as perfume and lotion. It's completely normal and doesn't mean anything is wrong with your jewellery. The best news is that regular wear and gentle cleaning help keep it bright.
Everyday care
- Put your jewellery on last, after perfume, hairspray, lotion and make-up.
- Take it off before swimming, showering, bathing or exercising.
- Remove it before cleaning, gardening or using household chemicals.
- Give it a quick wipe with a soft cloth after wearing to remove oils and moisture.
How to clean your silver
For a regular refresh, a soft silver polishing cloth is your best friend. Gently rub the surface of each piece to lift away dullness and bring back the shine.
For a deeper clean:
- Mix a few drops of mild washing-up liquid with warm water.
- Gently clean the piece with a very soft brush, such as a soft baby toothbrush.
- Rinse in clean water.
- Dry thoroughly with a soft, lint-free cloth, paying attention to any gaps and crevices.
Avoid toothpaste, bleach, abrasive cleaners and rough cloths, as these can scratch the surface.
Take extra care with glass, enamel and stones
Murano glass, enamel and stone-set pieces need a gentler touch. Avoid soaking them, and steer clear of silver dips and harsh cleaners, which can damage the finish. Some Pandora pieces have darkened (oxidised) detailing on purpose to highlight the design, so polish these lightly to keep that detail intact. For plated pieces, use only a soft cloth and a light hand.
Storing your jewellery
- Keep pieces somewhere cool and dry, away from bathrooms and damp.
- Store each item in a soft pouch or a lined jewellery box so pieces don't scratch each other.
- A small airtight bag can help slow down darkening when pieces aren't being worn.
- Fasten bracelets before storing them to avoid tangles.
Wear it often
One of the easiest ways to keep silver bright is simply to wear it. Gentle, regular wear helps prevent dullness building up, so don't save your favourite pieces for special occasions.
